Cogan's Trade | Movie Preview

Cogan's Trade
After the Palme d'Or won by The Tree of Life at Cannes, Brad Pitt is back at work with another director who had guaranteed him an important prize. It was 2007, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford won Pitt the Coppa Volpi for best actor at the Venice Film Festival. The director of the film was Andrew Dominik, for whom Pitt is working again in Cogan's Trade, where he is playing another extreme and violent character. Adapted from the novel of the same name by George V. Higgins, set in the mafia underworld of New Orleans, the film tells the story of the life of Jackie Cogan (Pitt), an enforcer tasked with recovering a notable sum of money stolen during a mob-protected poker game. We do not know how faithful Cogan's Trade will be to the book, but we certainly recognise the names of the other stars of the cast: James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), and a "beauty" in the midst so many "beasts": Bella Heathcote, chosen by Tim Burton as well for his forthcoming Dark Shadows.
